A few years ago, I was the Avian Research Program Director for a nonprofit organization working at the southern end of San Francisco Bay, California, USA. One of the focuses of my research was using banding to document the use of restored creek-side (riparian) habitat during migration. This is an interesting set of articles which shows how long-term banding programs can be used to elucidate bird behavior. Besides having a personal bias since it was my work, I especially like this study for it illustrates how information gathered by bird banding can be use to foster conservation.
