Good morning all

I am going to the Handa/Scourie areas of North West Scotland on thursday, wondered if anyone knew of any places to suggest in this area?

Thanks

Get hold of a copy of Gordon Hamlett's book on Birdingwatching in the Highlands - you'll find it very useful for this area.

Hi Goldengirl

Brilliant area you are going to. Scourie Bay : keep an eye out for Red Throated Divers there. Cuckoos should be around too. Stop at every layby and search the freshwater lochs for Divers.

Allow plenty of time to get to the Handa Ferry and check out all the lochs en route and sit at the harbour and check the bay there.

On Handa try and get the first ferry and do the complete walk if you can.

You don't say how long you are going for, but if you have time to get to Durness, take your time along the Kyle - possibility of Otters, Ringed Plovers etc. Fareid Head for Puffins and other cliff nesting birds. Cape Wrath is worth the run too (if the ferry is running) the bus driver found a Badger for us.

I'm sure others will be along with more suggestions too.

Have a good trip and let us know how you get on.

Thanks D great info

Theres nothing like info from others who have been

I have been around there before and apparently otters frequent the bay I am staying in, so quite excited, red throated divers I believe nest on Handa so may see some about, there are many divers around there I expect at the moment.

Will be there until Sunday so plenty of time to have a look, going again for three weeks in the summer so should be ok if I miss out - I was thinking of Durness and Cape Wrath then

Will let you know, when I get back
