Just in case anyone out there is thinking about visiting Lothian then I thought I would write a few words about places to visit. I'll start with the Scottish Seabird Centre, as my wife works there. The centre is in North Berwick and is situated at the harbour overlooking a picturesque scatter of rocky islands off the cliff girt coastline. The centre is a high tech birding experience as there are remote controlled cameras on some of the islands. This allows you to get close up views of the seabirds without actually landing. As a bonus you can control the cameras yourself. So for unparalleled views of the largest single island gannetry in the world as well as Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills, Shags, Kittewakes etc then visit in the summer.
In the late autumn the centre's camera on the Isle of May focuses on the Grey Seals which haul ashore at Pilgrim's Haven to give birth. There are more cameras planned, even one on St Kilda, and the centre hosts an optics shop, a cafe and a gift shop.
