Just, I hope, to give a little flavour of my local patch, and to help you picture the lie of the land.

The photos linked in the text are of the views shown on the map, starting adjacent to the (ivory coloured) housing development.

On our clockwise route, we head along the footpath (http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6504&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=2) toward the field (http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6506&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1) where the Kestrel hunts. We sometimes cross the field and work back through the northern wooded area, but usually we tkae the path alongside the pond (http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6505&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=2) and past the rhododendrons (http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6733&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1).

We then take a left, looking back (http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6732&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1) towards the pond and housing estate, before cutting through a few trees not marked on the map.

Then we follow the path alongside the root crop field (http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6734&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1). Usually we bypass the small wood (http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6762&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1), but sometimes detour through.

Either way, we pass between the private garden and hotel, taking the path (http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6763&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1) along the eastern side of the area.

Returning home, we pass through the cereal fields (http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6764&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1), and often split up. I sometimes explore the southern wooded area (http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6821&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1), before returning past the owl "Hunting Ground" (http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6822&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1), and the pond (http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6823&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1), and back home.

At a gentle stroll, I can make this last two and a half to three hours.

Interesting walkabout there. Brings the postings to life. Thanks for that.

2.5 - 3 hours .... How far is it ?

Hi Carlos,

The whole area is probably about 1km square, or thereabouts. In terms of distance walked then I guess usually maybe 2 - 2 and a bit k.

So obviously not got my running shoes on!
