Hi All.
I have just received my Sennheiser ME67 and Marantz PMD660. What a combination. I have posted some initial tests from Wakkerstroom with three nice recordings for you to listen to.

Nice work Doug!
What do you use for wind protection on this monster?

I would love to get the Ryco windshield but I am not prepared to pay that. Currently I just use the foam windshield made by Sennheiser for the ME 66/67 range.

Guess it's not too windy down your way, you lucky so and sos!
The ME is long but not too large a diameter. Here the cheapskates wind basket is a plastic peanut feeder with a rubber band suspension front and back and a thin sock :) I've never really had much luch with just the foam guard in anything more than 3 to 4 mph winds, and that's a real dead calm day for us.

I use a Reinhardt Whisper system on mine, and also a PG2 pistol grip.
Glad I bought a ME67 as Telinga ( through Augur Films ) have STILL not supplied my Pro6 since Mid May. Ridiculous.
I get really good results with an FR2 and the '67 - great crossbill songs already.

Blimey, the price is right on that compared with the Rycote basket systems. I haven't been able to use the MKH70 I got on ebay for bird recording as my mic budget is wiped out this year. I could spring for a Whisper system, if you get good results from that up your way!

That's great news - glad to hear that worked out well!

The Whisper is pretty good - it cost £189.18 including VAT for a PG2 and a Whisper System ( shaggy dog cover, built in foam insert) for the '67. Pricey, but the Rycote grip is about £95 and the Softie thing was about £100 (?), so it definitely competes. Ortus Media are the UK distributors - if you live in UK you can't buy direct from Reinhardt via ebay anymore apparently.
I use the HPF in the Fostex FR2 rather than the one in the ME67 and it produces pretty good results in moderate wind - still booms occasionally but nothing like my old system, and I can get more usable calls to produce sonograms.
