Broke my D70s on Friday, 10 days out of warranty (are they programmed to do this) shutter doesn't fire and mirror doesn't lock up so its off to Nikon repair tomorrow.............spent a whole weekend looking at the pictures I could have taken, birds seem to know when a camera isn't pointing at them!!

oh well...............http://www.birdforum.net/newthread.php#

... and my 500mm Sigma lens is in the shop being repaired...

very sorry to hear that your camera(s) have broken, let's hope they get fixed quickly (and inexpensively) so you can get snapping again.

You are all having some bad luck.to think on the positive side, you can all go and do some serious birding without having to take photos.
Do hope all repairs are speedy and not too pricey!!!

damn! my lens should have been ready to collect yesterday, but wasn't... and I've just found out that the wrong part was sent, so I'll have to wait even longer.

So how to cheer yourself up, order a D200 which arrived yesterday and will be playing with it tonight, needless to say first glance it appears to be rather more complex than the D70s which should be out of the shop on Tuesday btw www.fixationuk.co.uk are a very nice repair outlet

I broke my 10D too. After downloading my recent pictures, I pushed the CF card back into the slot and it didn’t feel right. The camera wouldn’t read the card and eventually reported a CF card error. One of the pins had bent.

Has this happened to anyone else? I’ve been pushing the card in without much thought over the last two years and I’ve never considered this to be a potential weakness. I’ll have to take more care with my new camera.

Yes, I’ve followed Duke’s example, and used the failure as an excuse to buy a new camera. Have gone for the 1D Mark II N, which is a bit reckless in my current position, but I was feeling low and now I’m feeling better! Will arrive tomorrow hopefully.

Not sure if I’ll bother repairing the 10D?

Paul,

I've commented on this on your other thread. It should be easy to repair and must be worth doing to keep the 10d as a spare.

Exactly, the D70s will be set up for something else, normally when the telephoto is on I get an excellent macro opportunity or something else apart from that I hate to keep changing lenses in the field might need a bigger camera bag also want a 1.4x will it never end
D200 is here played yesterday, will take a while to master, will post a couple of shots later on today

I had a very similar problem with my D100,would'nt focus properly, metering was out,And the screen fell out as i was changing a lens, it went back twice for repair within 6 weeks, I got so fed up with it I changed over to a Canon 30D & it is a ten times better camera in all respects, although it has cost me a few £s.

Hope you get it back soon.

Don't forget to try asking for a warranty repair, even if the item *is* put of warranty by a week or two, they *might* just accept it.

Several bits of my PC kit have been fixed that way. And a Fuji camera. And my old Thomson 28" TV....

Costs nowt to ask. Good luck.

If you're talking about a 12 month warranty, I'd quote the Sale of Goods Act at them if they refuse a warranty repair (assuming there's no sign of heavy usage/mishandling etc) on the basis that it was clearly unfit for the purpose, as it is reasonable to assume that a camera would last much longer without need for repair. At worst, they may cover part of the cost, and if you're bloody-minded enough to push as far as the Small Claims Court, you're likely to get the full cost of repair covered.

To be fair the repair agent without fuss has fixed my camera under warranty its nice in this world we live in to get superb cust service.

Postcardcv, I have noticed a lack of pictures from you, glad you got it back. I went to Seaford Head this week to see the nesting kittiwakes, really good stuff ! but disappointed with my pictures, I think I will have to get a teleconvertor.
