Wow, awesome!
I was out in Curacao recently - my first time photographing hummingbirds (blue-tailed emerald and ruby-topaz). By the end of the two weeks, some of the hummers (including some inquisitive juveniles) were getting so close to me (checking me out!) that I found myself frequently unable to use my 100-400 mm lens!
You guys are really lucky to have such amazing little creatures :-))
Cheers
Didi

Russ' video is awesome and precious. I have been able to hold the feeder at (half) outstretched arm distance and the bird drank from it six or seven times. Next step: emulate Russ and hand feed the bird.

That is a totally awesome sight. I wonder how long it took him and what stages he went through to get to that point. I've heard of hand-feeding chickadees, but this is something else. What a thrill!!

If you look at my avatar, you'll see a hummingbird called a Red-billed Streamertail, sitting on my finger to feed. While we were on a cruise through the Caribbean, we stopped in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and got a taxi to take us to the nearby Rocklands Bird Sanctuary. For some more photos and information, take a look at my trip report on my website:

Helen, I just read through the webpage. What an amazing trip that must have been. I would be in seventh heaven too, to hand feed some birds like that. Beautiful, that's worth going t Jamaica for in itself.
