I'm always thinking of ideas for useful / interesting threads and one on any binocular deals at the moment might be very useful for anyone changing bins or for some of the less experienced birders to snap up a bargain.

Judging from the amount of people who clock my dodgy set up of knackered Zeiss Classic bins and old Nikon ED 78 scope, do a double take, and look like they wouldn't want to be seen dead with them, I reckon there are a few people out there who would like the confidence to buy a pair of damn fine bins that might not be 'top of the range' but still perform more than adequately. There are some amazing bargains to be had out there.... you don't need £800-900...

hope it's a useful idea, and some of us might pick up a real gem or two.

so... Nikon 8 x 32 HGLs brand new from Warehouse Express £549... go get em.

anything else out there...

I thought the experience with your Nikons seizing up in Costa Rica had put you off them?

I'm well chuffed with the HGs I bought cheap last year though and that looks a good price for the new model.

Did you get a replacement for yours from Nikon if you don't mind me asking? I remember you hadn't had them all that long.

You can still get old Nikon HG 10x25s for £199 on Warehouse Express. I noticed they had a mail order return pair for £160 today. These are top quality compacts that are probably a lot better for general use than most full size bins you can get at that price.

Well worth keeping an eye out for bargains. Walters Photo Video were selling new Leica 8x32 BNs for £529 earlier in the year. Now back to £679.

I still really like the Opticron DBA Oasis for £570. The Nikon HGL's are top notch (they do show wear though).

That said if my optics went up in smoke and Mr Insurance Company reimbursed me in full. I'd look at the RSPB BG 8x32 or Opticron Imagics BGA's 8x32 (£290) and x42 (£309). And I really like in-focus 7x36 (£330) Delta bins. If you bought one of those instead of a bright new shiney EL or Ultravid or FL then you would save enough money to pickup a decent scope like the Opticron ES80ED / HR66ED or a Kowa 603 or a Nikon ED50.

Never looked through those Kowa's but Dave was might impressed - can be had for £290 on the net.

£199, ouch, that hurts. I paid too much!

Decent bins for the money.

often wondered - is there a set time of year for new models ?

(just thinking that lots of other things are reduced when the next years / seasons stock comes in & often there is very little difference from the old to the new)

This may be a little too tempting for some. Opticsplanet is listing "Nikon 10x35mm Premier E2" for $324.84
The 8x have been available here and there. I don't have 300 right now. Where does one sell binoculars besides here? I could sell everything at get those...

25 yr warranty is free but
Lifetime $10 "No-Fault" Warranty is also listed. :eek!:

I have owned perhaps 15 binos over the years.
My best bargain has been my Nikon 7x35 Actions.
$54 bucks including all tax and shipping right to my door.
They are inexpensive but not cheap.
