Okay ... All these birds I've seen (and most of them I've photographed) IN Ottawa, usually by the Ottawa River along the parkway.

I don't know the proper names of all the birds I've seen but for those I do:

Canadian Geese (lots of 'em!)
Mallard Ducks
American Black Ducks
Wood Ducks

Ring-billed gulls and other 'shore birds' ...

Cormorant
Blue Heron
Black Crowned Night Heron
Pilated Woodpecker
a couple of unidentified woodpeckers (hairy and/or downy)!

canaries/orioles (same bird, many names! It's basically yellow)

This has been a wonderful year for "first photos of" for me ... but these two are special as I've never seen them in the wild before, let alone around here.
