Hi All sorry to be so forward but....
Im of to the bird fair for the first time and im going on the Sunday with 3 of my five kids and my goodlady.
I would like to pic up a reasonable pair of bins.
Im looking at if possible 8X40 or 40+.
Armoured and waterproof if possible.
Reasonable pricing as 5 kids does not leave much money.
Any models that seam to be getting reduced perhaps now newer models out and stock of old models are getting reduced.
all advice greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for your time and all the best,
james

My brother just picked up a set of Nikon Monarch 8x42's. They seem like a great value binocular as they were purchased at less then 200 U.S. dollars. They have a great image and are very comfortable to use . I am sure there will be many others chiming in with better advice. Hope this helps- have a great time at the fair with your family.

you would probably get more for your money if you get a pair of porroprisms.
the most popular brands in the uk would be nikon..opticron..bushnell.

£150 pounds is the main selling point for these models,if you prefer the smaller roof prism designs then take a look at minox 8x42 br at around £250.
opticron veranos are also very nice priced at around £280.

the nikon monarchs seem to have had a recent price increase in the uk,you would do well to find a pair under £300 at the fair or in the shops.

best of luck which ever you choose

Same advice.
Check out the Nikon Action EX 8x40 porro prism.

8x40 Action if the EX Action is too much, same optics more or less. It is no longer water proof but I have never tested my EX for waterproofness either.

usual disclaimers:-
Note: there are plenty of posts saying it's best to see the actual product before buying.
This is NOT a recommendation as I've never had any dealings with this Co.
Sorry if it's a breach of etiquette to post commercial links.

1. Decide how much you are willing to pay.
2. Try as many models as possible, there will be loads on the day.
3. Go with the one you like best (don't be too swayed by top names, generally they may be better....... but if you find a non-branded pair that you like and are more likely to use, go with them).
4. Get out there and us 'em!

Did you get sorted James ??

If not, might my Opticron 8x42 be of any interest ?

In the classified section.

These looked to be very interesting, though I can't comment personally on their performance, the Specs. all seem to be in order, along witht the demo price.....good luck.

I see this outfit has Nikon 8 x 30 Premier E2's listed. Nikon recently discontinued them. They are optically superb and have a very wide FOV. If the store actually has them in stock then waste no time--buy one! You will be amazed at their performance!
