vandals have destroyed the wooden pathway and plastic fencing at rspb sandwell valley making the lakeside hide unaccessible fot the foreseeable future. it was destroyed by fire . the hide is ok as its only accessible by swingbridge but only time will tell as to when that will be attacked too.
i saw a thrush in the bushes with the most enormous green caterpillar i`d ever seen! he was bashing it on the ground in an attempt to kill it before eating it but i dont know if he succeeded or not as he flew off with it into more undergrowth and i lost him. however it was quite a sight! sue

It has not been a good week for RSPB Reserves as the hide at Ryan's Field, Hayle was also attacked. Fortunately this hide is not made of wood so it will still be useable. Roger

hi . yes iagree that vandals are increasingly attacking places and causing loads of damage . i can`t understand why they do such stupid things and spoil thing for others . i dont know how long our hide will be out of action

a friend and i had a great day at the birdwatching fair at rutland water on sunday . on the way home we dropped in to a little reserve where we saw 2 ospreys, a little egret and egyptian geese [wild ones!] among other waterfowl. anyone else go to the fair---i got nigel marvin and janet summers autographs. i won a free ticket to the fair with a question for janet at an event . roll on the next fair! from sue
