I have a pair of reverse porros that have gotten little use. I thought they were poor or out of alignment. Now they seem to work. I don't know what happened.
But you can report what binoculars you first hated but came to like or at least adapt to later, so that they worked for you. And did you have to do anything.

I have a pair of 12x26 Nikko compact porros. I bought them about 8 or 9 years ago just for something to keep around the house. At first I was not too fond of them because of the small exit pupil and dim overall image (before I even knew what an exit pupil was and or how it affected the viewing experience). Now I pick them up and instantly understand why compact reverse porros are so highly regarded in reference to similarly priced compact roofs. In my case it was a matter of preference and perspective rather than anything that physically changed.

What really annoys me is dim binoculars with narrow depth of field. My two eyes are different enough so that I end up doing a lot of diopter adjustments. If they are sharp enough to use, but not the greatest, optimizing gets difficult.

People are sometimes willing to put up with unpleasant eye cups if the view is worth it

Other weird stuff with bins:
Pincushion or barrel effects...some find it OK to look but then when panning..it is just too much.
