Ringing Programme in S.W.Spain
From next February 2003,I am offering a weekly ringing programme in the Costa del Sol area of S.W.Spain.
Accomodation includes a room in my apartment with a double bed and private bathroom.
The cost is 35 pounds sterling for the room per night, but the price includes continental breakfast and sandwiches with drinks at the ringing sites.
Restaurants and shops are within easy walking distance of the apartment for other meals and extra provisions if needed.
The only extra charge will be for the cost of diesel to get to and from the ringing sites plus collection to and from the airport,Malaga or Gibraltar.
The Apt. has large balcony with sea view, overlooking the Bay of Malaga, set in mature gardens with 2 swimming pools.
The ringing sites are in both Cadiz and Malaga province and are located in a variety of habitats, including coastal estuary, reedbeds, mixed Mediterranean scrub, river, paddyfields and farmland;which produces an excellent mix of species throughout the year,passerines,non-passerines and waders.
As the ringing programme will be taking place throughout the year,it will produce different species depending on the season.
An important reminder is that " Autumn " starts down here in June in S.Spain,so June ,July and August will present large numbers of birds, juveniles and moulting individuals.
Moult here is more complex than what one encounters in N.Europe,so our " Autumn " will give ringers an in depth experience of this most important subject.
The ringing programme will be particularly useful for trainees,"C " and "A " licence holders looking for experience abroad and for those looking for future upgrades in the U.K.,or ringers from other European Countries interested in increasing their knowledge in this field.
Opportunities will be available at the various sites to set up standard mist nets, single shelf, wader and owl nets, and to use potter and spring traps, tape lures in the appropriate season, dazzling, and mist netting at Winter and Autumn roosts.
There is also a computer available at the apartment which will give the ringer a chance to enter data on to BRING.,plus an extensive natural history library.
