View Full Version : How have the Canons been since the A95?

I read about Canon's new Powershot A640 and it's base features sounded good, 10MP and 4x optical. Have these been good birding cams for digiscoping since the A95 or have they gone downhill in manual control options?

I looked at a high-end Canon similar to my A95 yesterday and it did not feel very sturdy compared to my A95. It was much lighter which would be a plus. No movable LCD either. I guess a sunshade eyepiece would be okay for these cameras.

I would rather make a small one out of cardboard for my A95 (planning to). I do like the 10MP since it gives me more room to crop and keep the photo at a printable size/quality. I'm still new but learning bit by bit.

See ya

I guess this says something. I just checked the price of a new in the box A95 from Amazon and the cheapest one was $379.99.

I did notice the new A640 has a movable large LCD screen which would be nice.

I wish they would start putting in a electronic shutter release cable jack in their top end compact cameras with a multi function remote available and/or the ability to control the camera by computer via usb.

It would be nice for a new Canon birding camera.

I love the fact that the A95 can be customized with the bird theme. I always wondered if the digiscopers had any input on that.
