Hardly dare ask this as my binoculars have already been the subject of ridicule. I have a pair of old bins given to me by my Dad- have seen great things through them- red kites, were magic- but i'm told they have moss growing in them. Please could anyone advise me on cleaning them or getting them cleaned . They are Steiner . Thanks very much.

I clicked ready to suggest a lenspen but then noticed the problem was internal. take it to a specialist shop -that's the only answer.

All the best

It might be expensive to have them disassembled and cleaned but you've no option other than to put up with the algae.

If you're lucky enough to have a local camera shop nearby - I would try them as they might have a local contact who could do the job.

An excellent company I have bought from and who specialise in repair work are Kay Optical:

You could phone them and discuss the problem - they are amazingly helpful and friendly.

They are Steiner .
Sue,

You have very good binoculars which are definitely worth having cleaned. If I remember correctly some Steiner models have a 30 year warranty. If they are some of those "waterproof & nitrogen purged" models, they should never grow anything inside regardless of handling. You could contact Steiner first to see whether it is covered by the warranty.

Best regards,

Ilkka
