There are 48,872 members on this forum.

So we should be able to help bigtime!!!!!

The RSPB are looking to get 100,000 signatures (one for every Albatross that is killed each year on a longline) to help the plight of the Albatrosses of the world.

I know it been done before but there numbers are still falling at an alarming rate.

done. anyone received their "free badge" yet? Apologies for the minor diversion but I'm curious as to the cost-efficiency of that as a way of raising awareness (this is not a criticism - I'm genuinely keen to hear people's thoughts on whether it works).

Bumping again - got mine today, complete with a shiny booklet of handsome model types wearing theirs in various unlikely positions (the idea looks to be to match the pr success of the red/pink ribbons). Being a handsome model type myself I'll badge up tomorrow and investigate whether a) anyone notices, b) whether anyone asks about it and c) whether they are intrigued into/made aware of and hence supporting the cause.

Glad to see this thread still going, too. As posted on the other one, got mine and am wearing it. Just spoke to someone who didn't really know what an albatross was...

Hi all
Recieved my badge midweek and managed to persuade another three people to sign up. i have just been watching a programme on the galapagoss isles and they showed a clip of some albatrosses absolutely magnificient birds.
Lets hope more people sign the petition.

I've signed too now. Agree with you Nigel - the Albatross section of the Beeb's Galapagos programme really gave a good idea of what fantastic creatures they are - all birders should sign!
Cheers

Got my badge last week and wore on my shirt to the pub Friday night. It worked inasmuch that several people asked why I was wearing a fishing hook. Unfortunately I was viewed as some sort of loony by the majority and nobody really gave a stuff about the albatrosses.
But at least I raised awareness.

An all-too-familiar and sad indictment of modern society. People don't really give a stuff about anything that doesn't directly affect them.
