Anyone seen dipper in Dorset lately?

No matter how many times I go to Maiden Newton (West Dorset) I keep dipping on dipper. Anyone else been lucky?

There was a stream that ran through Lyme Regis (we walked alongside the the stream from Uplyme, Devon for approx 1.5 miles into Lyme Regis, Dorset. The location of the sighting was very near to Coombe Street, Lyme Regis. The date was 25-Aug-2006 and the time 14.23pm.

do you know which section of the wey in upwey is best for dippers (and which time of year)?
I know they are hard to see there but..
it's only about 5min walk from my new house...

If you drive down the narrow road on your left where the road bends round to the right just before you go up the hill on the main Weymouth/Dorchester road and then turn right at the end of the road, park in the layby, cross the road and stand on the bridge over the river. If you go ten times you may be lucky once or twice. I have seen them all times of the year here. Roger

If I recall, the layby is on the right, just before the first house in the village. The bridge is on private land - you go up a drive to get there! - but only by a few yards, and I've never heard of any trouble over access. Birds can be seen as far downstream as the garden centre, and upstream to the Tea Gardens at the top end of the village.

All sections have now been edited, but late records can be inserted if you're quick - if not, please send them in anyway so they can go on the permanent database, even if you don't get to see them in print.

I have a gun loaded and ready for next year.....

thanks everyone for advice, so the bridge i am aiming for is basically at the bottom of upwey village?

MSA, I will get my records for last year in eventually for the permanent database, there wasn't anything too amazing (apart from that black-and-white warbler in the back garden ;)), and will make sure I get this year's in promptly!!!!!

There seem to be a few bridges in Upwey.

That looks like it is the bridge I referred to in my post Dave. It is actually just inside the wall of the estate but I have never had any problems just standing on the bridge. If you follow my directions you can't miss the bridge even if you miss the Dippers which come and go. Roger

I believe it's actually the bridge just above and right of the word "Ho" - but all should be clear when you get there, as Devon Birder says. It's a small area!
