Just visited the Ontario Field Ornithologists website and noticed that Ron Pittaway has gathered together and published his annual winter finch forecast, based on berry, seed and cone crops across the region. Seems like there's a bumper harvest this year.

Interesting read. I do not agree with the assesment on Red-breasted Nuthatches however. There has been an unusually strong push of them into Iowa the past month or so.

Hi J - well they haven't seemed to have moved at all over here on the east coast. I think I recall exactly one report very early in CT and since then nothing. Thanks for posting Andrew even if it doesn't seem to bode well for an exciting winter.
