Hi everyone,
While in a camera shop the owner told me that the 350 only will hold up for 10.000 pictures before the shutter fails. Can someone varify this pls.
I find it hard to believe. I have shot almost 4000 shots in less then 4 months.
Canon comes with a warranty for 1 year and it is extendable up to another 2 years. Surely if this was true they would expect the shutter mecanism to stop working.
Another unexpected problem with the camera I had was that I lost the rubber grip while in the field. Not sure how this happened or why it came loose.
I hope Canon will replace it.

I shouldn't bother too much what staff in camera shops tell you. When I was thinking of buying a Canon 350D I went in to the London Camera Exchange in Exeter and asked how much they would give me for my old print camera which was a Canon EOS600. The guy said he didn't want it as the EOS600 was known to "ultimately fail". I said everything would ultimately fail and I had had the camera for 15 years and it hadn't failed yet. Needless to say I didn't buy my 350D from that shop. Roger

Peter,
My 350D recorded 36,664 shots up to now since I bought it last Sept.. While there may be sample differences, I do not think the chance of breakdown after 10,000 shots is very high.

That is very reassuring. Tx a lot! I will keep snapping away. I love this little thing though it does have a couple of snags to it.

I am over 10k and still going strong Peter. By the way when mine reached 10k it rewound the clock to IMG_0001. Not sure if I could have changed this somehow from some setting in the Camera menu.

I think that the 350D shutter is tested to 50000 actions, so it should last a good deal longer than they suggested it would... even if the shutter does fail it can be replaced.

The shutter replacement is not very expensive,so don't worry. The 350D is a great little cam.The same goes for the 20D ,it is supposed to have a limited life, but again, shutter replacement is available.Much cheaper than a new cam!!.

In this case I believe that the 20D shutter is tested to 100000 actions :)
