Hi all

My apologies for not being too active after joining. Im a return to college gal and over my head with Organic Chem this semester (anyone good at tutoring??). I have been a long time birdwatcher and novice photographer. I currently own a Canon Digital Rebel 300D and a 75-300mm Canon Zoom lens. I also have made use of digiscoping with my Swarovski (spell) scope in which I find a great deal of vignetting when I scope using higher power on the eyepiece. I have been investigating a way to increase magnification power for the zoom. B and H Photography in New York sells 2x Teleconverter lenses but do not recommend them for the zoom I have. In the old days, I had a Minolta film camera with a 70-210mm zoom that I used a 2X teleconverter on with decent success as long as I used 1600 ASA film. Any thoughts on using teleconverters? It would be cheaper for me at the moment as I would love to eventually get a nice super telephoto but the price tags are out of my range at the moment. I love digiscoping but would like to obtain much better images without the vignetting. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I guess the issue is looking for suggestions to get better and closer images when out birding.

hi sunshine.the two photos i have attached were taken on an EOS 300D(REBEL)with the same canon 75-300mm lens as yours.the first pic was taken without my kenko 1.5x converter and the second pic with.it was dusk so i had to use flash.it was taken at 200iso @1/200th flash sync.the reason i took these pics was because i have only just bought my first DSLR(300D)and wanted to check the resolution with and without the converter attached for myself.oh,and someone on another thread asked the same question.i cannot see any difference, how about you?
mike.

well I certainly don't see any difference, but this comes from a novice's eye. Here's a pic of an Osprey that just caught a fish. As you can see, he's off in the distance. Although the image has the bird slightly out of focus and is overall interesting, I would love to be able to increase the magnification to have made this bird larger overall - I have a hard time taking action shots via digiscoping. As I mentioned, I'd love to get a big telephoto but the cost is way too much for me right now. I'll look at the other threads and see if there's any info there. Thanks!
