Best camera I can get under $300?

I want to begin photographing wild birds. What kind of digital camera could I get, with good zoom, battery life, and good picture under $300 in the U.S.?

Need some opinions.

I noticed the Canon S2 IS has dropped to around that price-I think I saw it at Staples for about 250 which is 100 dollars less than I paid for it.-I'm sure there's plenty of other options too.

Dell Small Business is offering 20% off the S3 at the moment. So that brings the price to under $320. Worth a look, if you can bear to search through Dell's appalling web site!
