Using my canon eos 350D and canon 18-55 mm zoom lens, I am having trouble getting a sharp image when taking landscape and plant photos ( ie not sharp where I have focused in focus lock or manual auto focus) . I have tried different shutter speeds and apertures, landscape semi auto setting, and tripod and no improvement, so it does not appear to be camera shake or narrow depth of field. I suspect that the lens can't focus on a textured surface such as foliage. Doesn't work if I focus on a lawn close to plants I want in focus either. However close up shots of leaves and flowers in a vertical plain are sharply in focus. Do other people have the same problem? is it the lens> why does it happen? Can anyone suggest a lens to buy that does focus well on distant foliage, compatible with Canon EOS.
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris
The sharpest lens I have used on my 30D is the 70-200 f4, everything is in focus, it is a superb lens for the money at around £480.
