icons on screen

Andy,this is a question really for you,as you helped me set up the camera settings.Please can you tell me why an icon ,a red oblong keeps appearing under the infinitive icon and next to where the battery symbol appears.I have looked all through the manual(honestly!!)and cannot find any info regarding it.At first I thought it meant the battery was low,as the symbol was already there,then after changing the battery it was still there.I moved the camera around in the house ,when it was pointed at a dark place it appeared and then went when it was pointed at somewhere brighter.But this afternoon even in the full sunshine it kept appearing.it seems to be a warning of somesort,but cannot fathom out exactly what.Any comments would be gratefully appreciated.

Are you sure its not the Spot Metering Area Display?In my manual for the 995 its mentioned on page 98 in the Setting Shooting Menus.

Spot Metering.

The camera measures light in an area in tha centre of the frame occupying roughly 1/32 of the total Monitor area, indicated by the square in the centre of the Monitor.
Best when you want to set the exposure based on a small area of the picture,(e.g. a subject surrounded by a dark background).
I'm no technical expert, this is what it says in my manual.

It's not the camera shake warning symbol is it? That would pop-up when the camera is pointing at a dark area... because the max shutter-speed would be too slow to guarantee a sharp image when the camera is handheld... the camera doesn't realise that you digiscope with a tripod ;-)

Andy is correct.
It is the camera shake warning symbol. If it appears brace yourself or put the camera on a tripod or similar support it should then dissappear

I'm not sure that the symbol disappears, I think it just appears when a certain shutter-speed is going to be used..... Don't think the camera has any sensors that judge camera movement, so it doesn't know when it's stable or not. My one is quite often flashing away at me (most annoyingly) despite being tripod mounted.

I think you'll find Andy is correct its the low light symbol which comes on when you have a slow shutter speed, below 1/30 second i think, if using a tripod just ignore it.

Thankyou,one and all.I have just returned from a pre-boat launching party(boat is launched on Tuesday,it all happens in these little Cumbrian villages)so will try to make sense.Yes,it does show a shaky hand,but as i was not touching anything and have even bought a beanbag to put on the top of the scope to try and keep the picture in the screen,very difficult ,that is,as soon as you let go of the scope the picture all but disappears,could not see that it could be camera shake.Thought it was perhaps because the phone wires the swallows were perched on was causing the shaky symbol.but if one just ignores it and keeps on then fair enough.
This digi scoping is very difficult,much harder than i thought.You look through the scope see a perfect pic,attach the camera,press,and what does one get,a blurred shape or half a picture.but from some of the brilliant ones i have seen on this forum perfection can be achieved(in my dreams ,me thinks).
