i have had phota since 1994 never been sure what it was .was seen up scotland at loch rannoch. it was very approachable as it was at my feet at one time probability just wondering what the smell was!

Looks like a Mink or Polecat/ferret. Mink are nearly always black or very dark brown. This looks quite light and you can pick out face martkings so i will go for a polecat or ferret probably the latter (or hybrid) especially Polecats are still quite rare up in scotland especially twelve years ago.

yeh it did not look quite like anything in the books i have. hybrid is about right i would say

It's a Ferret, of the dark variety as opposed to an albino.
Have a look at My avitar I used to have this one as a pet.
someone must have lost it that is why it was so tame and was at your feet

I would guess it must be an escaped ferret or it would've scarpered when it got too close to you (not saying you smell that bad or anything)

(btw- like the way you sign off- bit slow this evening, I'm thinking -what are you going to cook? why does this have any relevance? Doh!) ;)
