Howdy,
For the last couple of years I have been seeing a large roost of vultures near my home in Houston, Texas County, Mo. It is a mixed roost in that it has both Black and Turkey vultures within it.
Both years I have noticed that they start roosting in Nov. with low numbers gradually build in numbers up to about 100 birds. Then almost over night they all leave at the end of Dec. It appears to me that they are using this area as a staging ground for their big push down further south as I know that at Table Rock lake there is a huge winter roost there also.
Has staging like this been obseerved elsewhere?

Little know seceret that the down town buildings of Tampa are invaded every year just about Thanksgiving and they stay till late March then slowly dissappear. Got 40 to 50 roosting in the Bald cypress on my pond here too this year.
Just in case you wanted to know where the vultures(black and turkey) went.
