Evening All

Got out early before first light.Had a number of ringing lanes to clear that had to be abandoned during the main part of our summer.

At this time of year ,as it is a riverine site ,is used by the Spanish and Gibraltarians for picnics and other irritating actives such as quad biking, esp at weekends,so not worth putting up with all the hassel.

Beautiful early this am,a flock of Bee Eaters over,so high could not even see them, makes me feel sad really,Hardly seems long since they arrived in April.

A juv.Golden Oriole was calling for its parents in nearby Eucalyptus trees but did not reveal itself.

Dead calm and very hot again today,no raptor movement this area.

This evening put up nets ready and furled for the early morning stint at my private olive grave.

Saw a Short Toed Eagle on a pylon, devouring its tea,a nice juicy snake,by now it was 19.00hrs.,so hotfoot hame to get my dinner too.Early start in the morning,up at 05.00 hrs.

Even on your quiet days you see brilliant birds!

Hi tchagra, a bird banding (ringing) friend and I are getting ready to do some banding here in the US. The wood warblers will be migrating through our area soon and we want to be ready for them. We, of course, net some of the residents and typically get cardinals, blue jays, flycatchers, wren and sparrows also. I am relatively new at banding, only been doing it a couple of years now. So I look forward with anticipation to the fall migration and what "new" birds we might net!

Hi Larry

Great to hear from someone on other side of the pond.

I had a morning ringing session with a group down in Sierra Vista,Arizona when I was there a couple of years ago.

A real friendly bunch of guys and gals, handled some really interesting species.

I have an early copy of your passerine guide but sadly as yet have not found the cash to buy the latest hefty tome which I am sure is a "good read"!!

Have a good one in the fall
