I saw this bird on a branch often occupied by Sparrowhawk and occaisionally Kestrel, and thought thats a b big bird, It looked almost Buzzard sized ( wishful thinking ? ). Itwas 80-100 yards away on an island, the weather was drizzly, hence the poor pic.
Someone else reported it as a Peregrine ( one has beed seen flying around lately ). I think its just a very big Sparrowhark, I don't think its a Peregrine.!
Opinions please. And I understand that these can only be opinions because of the lack of quality of the pic.
Thanks

Male sparrow hawk for me too, enlarged by fluffing the feathers. Was it a cold day?

The reddish barring on the chest seems a giveaway for me, are there any other possibilities?

Also thought male sparrowhawk as I can see the warm reddish tinge in the pic and the jizz is very 'sprawkish'. Can't think of any other possibilities, I think the size was misleading you as it looks bigger than the sprawk you're probably used to seeing on that branch, due to puffed out feathers.
