Can someone let me know what kind of shop to visit to buy a bean bag for the car as I'm fed up with blured photos and I would'nt mind a bit of advice on what make and size of scope to buy as my bins are crap as I'm off to Scotland in April so I need something decent

Very reasonably priced models both with and without a standard 1/4" threaded mount can be had from www.7dayshop.com and eBay (search for 'camera bean bag' and 'beanpod camera' - excluding the ' marks).

Really easy to make your own to whatever size you want. All you need to some tough cloth and a filler of some sort. I have used a bag of rice, straight off the shelf, in the past.

A bit off a sleeve from an old waterproof jacket, sown and filled with rice or birdseed makes an excellent bag. I leave a big'un in the car to put on the window when needed.

The one we use was actually bought as a gift for us and it is supposed to be a warmer which you put in the microwave for a few mins and then you can put it on your cold back/neck etc. As it rarely got used for that purpose it then became the camera bean bag.

Well I supposed we still could use it for its original intention, now that the cold weather is here.

Here is something similar to ours.

Hi Jim

Another bean bag option is Mike Lane (http://www.nature-photography.co.uk/Grippabags.htm). Looks a good design to me - especially for car use.

As for telescope advice, there are so many options depending upon what budget you have and what you want to use it for.

Best bet would be to try a few out. There are lots of optics open days advertised in magazines or try a shop where you can view.

I see you live in Staffs so why not make a day trip to Old Moor RSPB (details on the RSPB website).

They have an excellent range of optics, good advisers who are impartial (ask for Steve Rutherford or John Revill) and you can try before you buy by looking out onto the reserve.

If you still aren't sure, you can always ask for opinions on specific models on here and there will be 100's of views waiting for you!

Hope this helps

Matthew

Oh, and of course, any profit from your purchase goes to a good cause!

If you do a search (camera bean bag) on ebay there are a few for sale. I bought one last night.
