Hi tchagra,
As a ringer of many years standing I look forward to your ringing news over the next few days. I am sure you will get your Little owls in due course, it took me a few years before I caught my first, I then got three in two days.

"Hi Andrew
Go top of the class."
I'd give an a- or b+ to Andrew here as the bird is a Eurasian Scops (Otus scops) rather than Pale Scops (Otus brucei), the two are extremely similar and identification of this particular individual is probably only possible due to location (Pale is confined to the Middle East). I guess is unusually pale appearance in the pic is due to the use of flash (?). It's just possible to make out the underlying faintly barred pattern of the underparts which points to Eurasian.

Well, I just hope it was released pretty soon after this shot as it looks like a Rabbit caught in the headlights!;)

Goddamit Spud, you beat me by minutes!! Yes it's a European Scops which means that Andrew only gets a Sherbert Lemon or similar sour sweet!!
