Has anyone tried (or know someone who has) the Canon G5 camera for digiscoping?
I believe it is very similar to the Canon G3 (that a few members use for digiscoping quite successfully), but I am not sure how well it would perform in comparison.

I think the G5 would be every bit as good as my G3 - just has more pixels - and the attachment of the adapter, if you were to take the same home-made route as I did, would work in the same way.

The Canon powershot G5 does not have a screw thread on it's lens.
What is a good way to attach it to a telescope ?

Hello Flandrien,

On behalf of admin and all the moderators, welcome to Bird Forum.

For the answer to your question, please have a look at my thread here (http://www.birdforum.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6128) for info on how my G3 is connected to my scope.

The G5 will fit in exactly the same way. The silver lens thread adapter is from a company in America called Lensmate - http://www.lensmateonline.com/ .

The URL you listed on how your G3 is connected to your scope comes up as page not found. Did it move?

Redcrew,

On behalf of admin and all the moderators, welcome to Bird Forum.

You're right, the post appears to have moved - probably as a result of the recent upgrade. I've found it again and you can read it at:

We look forward to hearing about the birds in your area and if you're thinking of digiscoping, please post some photos in the Gallery.
