This afternoon I took my bins for walk on the Blackwater, from Heybridge Basin to Maldon. The tide was out but the wader numbers didn't seem very high. Highlights include:

Black-tailed Godwit: a colour ringed bird. I've reported it on CR Birding and if I get any feedback on it I'll let you know

Little Tern: c15

Common Tern: c20

Yellow-legged Gull: 1

Mediterranian Gull: 1 adult

Greenshank: 3

Whimbrel: 3

Common Sandpiper: 1

A pleasant couple of hours in the field.

Sounds pleasant, I keep seeing Green Sandpiper and I hadn't seen a Greenshank til Sat and saw another today!

I'm really going to have to go over there one day.

Hey Phyllo which would you recommend for next Saturday Fingringhoe or Abberton.

The Med and YLG made it interesting! Actually they all are interesting birds I like seeing anytime! Glad you enjoyed it.

Yes, sounds a couple of pleasant hours. I've never seen Med or YLG gull ..... maybe soon.

Pete.

Why not do both, they're quite close to one another? But if you have to do one I'd opt for Fingringhoe because of its more varied habitat and being closer to the coast it may well pull in a few migrants - e.g Pied Fly.

Anyway good luck, let us know how you get on.
