Raynox & Tiffen Teleconverters

I was considering buying a teleconverter lens for my CP4500,does anybody have any experience of using either the Raynox or the Tiffen teleconverters?If so what sort of results are you getting?

I have the 2x Tiffen converter and I'm very disappointed with it!

On my camcorder where there is not a lot of control over the chosen aperture the results are completely unacceptable - very soft over most of the field.

On my still camera, stopping-down the lens to the minimum aperture improves it somewhat but it's still not very good.

I think there's a general rule with all tele-converters, whether for screwing onto the front, as with the Tiffen, etc., or for fitting between camera and lens, as on SLRs, and that is buy the very best model available.

No converter can improve the quality of the lens, it's bound to degrade it, if only slightly, so there's not a lot of sense in buying a poor-quality product - I ought to have suspected this from the price of the Tiffen converter compared to the 'Carl Zeiss' model for my Sony products, but as they say, there's no fool like an old fool!

By the way, many of the cheaper models look very similar to one another so there's probably only one or two models around which are then 'badge-engineered.'

Sorry if this is not the answer you hoped for but I would definitely recommend saving-up the extra money for the best model.

I have the Nikon TC-E3 ED 3x converter and I'm very happy with it. Most of my shots have been handheld. Just don't use the digital zoom with this though.

I have the Nikon 2X which I use from time to time, however I just purchased the Crystalview 8X32 with great results.
I use a tripod with all my converter lenses.
I would never recommend the Kenko or other less quality adaptors that are advertised. ( Once bitten, twice shy)
