View Full Version : How To Choose Lense For Dslr ?

I am going to move into dslr. I have previously owned a Minolta 700i with 80-200 lense(for general photography). From all related threads it would appear that I will need at least 400mm (possibly 500mm if I can afford it). The problem is finding a dealer that has such a lense in stock so I can try it (as much for size & weight as quality).
Are there such things as camera fairs/exhibitions ? Is there a dealer in the north west that stocks such things ?
Are there any members around Warrington/Cheshire that own such equipment that would be willing to let me see/hold it-maybe meet up and actualy try it in the field ?
Any advice would be appreciated.

David,
I think you may have difficulty finding a local dealer who stocks such large, expensive lenses, which obviously doesn't help you at all. When I decided to get my self a 500 mm, I visited the Bird Fair in Rutland, its usually held in August.
There I was able to compare, Sigma, Nikon and Canon camera bodies and lenses, it does help. Prior to my visit and until I'd tried each combination, I had convinced myself that Nikon was for me, however I ended up going the Canon way.
