Flash

I am curious to know how many people use fill in flash when taking photos. I read an article in Digital Photography about using flash at -3 or -2 for bird photos, so I started to use it to good effect at close range. Is this common practice?

During the summer months, I tend to use it quite bit in my shady yard with good results.
