I am soon to go on a trip to Vietnam / Singapore and am hoping to pick up a camera out there (probably cheaper). I want to go armed with a bit of info on cameras and prices brfore I go.

I am hoping to upgrape my camera. I have a Coolpix 4500 and DCA Adapter. I am hoping to get one with larger screen, less shutter lag!! more MP etc. With manual / shutter priority control.

I am looking at probably Sony, Canon or Fuji. I am hoping you can recommend a few to me? Also I know I will probably have to get a tube of some kind for the external zoom cameras? Where would I get one of them from, and what types??

Also some of the slightly older Sony or Canons might be ok? Eg W7 etc?

Please can you help

All the best
Jon

Does anyone know much about the Lumix range when it comes to digiscoping? Are they able to do it? Its just with the image stabiliser I would of thought that might have been rather good?

Cheers

Of course you know that in order to use the DCA you need a camera that has threads for filters, lenses, etc. I am not familiar with Lumix in that respect. Unfortunately there are some pretty good cameras out there that do not have this feature so the only option you have is a swing away mount that attaches via the tripod threads. I do know that the Canon A6xx cameras do have a filter adapter. I am currently using the A95 with the DCA and have decent results. The upgrades, A630, A640 claim to have faster focus response which is my biggest complaint with the A95. These newer cameras also are 4x instead of 3x but if you don’t zoom all the way I believe they will be fine. Try any camera first to be sure. Search the digiscoping forum for these cameras and others you are considering and you should find some interesting discussions.

The four shots attached here were taken using my Swarovski HD65 and the Canon A95 via the DCA. The Gyrfalcon was zoomed to 60mm as it was about 400 meters away
