Hello
I've been advised to use a fixed eyepiece for digiscoping [about 30*]. I only have a zoom at the moment and have had some quite good results. [first few attempts]. Is there any reason why a fixed eyepiece is better?
Cheers. Al.

Used a zoom for the first 6 months of my blog, then got a 20xwa eyepiece and results improved, better light and field of view along with sharper image are the reasons. You can still get good results with the zoom. You can see my blog by clicking on the link here, its mentioned in the text when I got the 20x eyepiece.

I believe that fixed magnification eyepieces have fewer elements (better light transmission) and often have a wider field of view than zooms. This should reduce vignetting problems. However.....I have just bought a Fuji F30 camera to use with my Swarovski 80HD scope with 20-60x zoom eyepiece. In complete contrast to my older Olympus C4000, with which the vignetting got worse as I zoomed in the scope eyepiece, with the F30, I get less vignetting at x30 than at x20! It only goes to show that you either have to take your equipment to the shop and try it with whatever you are planning to buy (a bit difficult when buying by mail order) or use internet forums like this one to glean essential facts!
