I saw a Black-headed Gull today which was in its intermediate stage between winter and summer plumage. Was this a bit early?

I've seen quite a few Black-headed gulls with partially summer plumaged heads this month. Also most herring gulls i am seeing at the moment are back into their summer plumages - Fully white heads.

Yep, lost of Herring Gulls with fully white heads around the library in Portsmouth. Also seen a fair few Summery BH Gulls. Dont know what stimulates the change, but if its seasonal, then we can probably expect them to start changing earlier.

A few BH gulls near me starting show fairly extensive darkening to the hoods. Nothing unusual, it will spring in a month

Seen one in near-full summer plumage. See a lot with winter plumage, and another lot with varying degrees of brownness.

On 1st Jan this year, I also watched an adult BHG, with a dark hood, which was my earliest ever (or latest, whichever way it was).

Here's a photo of one I saw last November in Aberdeen. Is this late or early?

Seen quite a fair few in summery-plumage here in Glasgow, right through from early January.
Had some daffodils threatening to come through last week, but the 2-3 days of cold and frost recently has put paid to that.
Also saw a Magpie this morning flying over carrying twigs for a nest.
