I thought I would try this combo out for fun as lot's of people are already hooking DSLR's to scopes. For my first test I set it up on a friend's Whimberly Head. With the D2x being a heavy camera it wasn't balanced too well so there was a lot of vibration being transmitted along the scope . The second day I set it up with two tripods but that limited me to on one spot. Either way I found the lens difficult to focus (the lens is about f11 ) and my percentage of keepers was smaller than I would get with the Nikon CP8400 (I had to use iso 800 too). This is because it's equivalent to a 1500 mm lens which needs robust support and the scope is light. Both scope and camera body should be anchored on some sort of balance bar. I will try the D100 out when the light improves (we have a forecast of drizzle and hazy days for the next week ) as it's body is much lighter.
I was using a Nikon 50mm/1.8 lens on the Swarovski 20-60x zoom eyepiece connected using the Swarovski DCA adapter (52 mm ).
The male Magpie Robin was from the first day (without the second tripod ) and the Daurian Redstart using two tripods on the second day.
I'd appreciate comments from others how to improve the setup for stablility and mobility. Neil.
