What a refreshingly bizarre thing to do ! I had no idea that there was a feral rhea population in the Western Palaearctic. You didn't mention whether they were Lesser or Greater Rhea, and are you absoloutely sure they aren't a previously overlooked relict wild population ? ;)
Not sure about the bit where you say you're not completely mad though !

You took a bad day for birding the Netherlands... I'm glad you didn't get into trouble. I saw a three-species flock of Flamingos today in the southwest of the Netherlands – they were even starting courtship!

ROTFL! Very funny trip. I dipped Rhea myself - only saw that sign.

I admit it was a little mad but I did see a couple of real! birds, LWF goose and Grey headed woodpecker that I needed. After all birding is supposed to be fun.
