So I'm thinking about getting a new camera for digiscoping. I see everyone raving about the F30 (and I wish I'd bought it last year instead of a different camera). This seems to have been discontinued in Japanese stores and replaced by the F31.

Is this basically the same camera but with slightly updated features? Will it be as good for digiscoping? Everyone seems to say the F30 was great because of its fast shutter speeds. Does the same apply to the F31?

The reason I ask is that I started off using the Nikon Coolpix 4200 and last year I replaced it with a Nikon Coolpix model a couple of "generations" later (the P4) which I assumed would be superior but the older model is much much better for digiscoping. I do not want to repeat the same mistake!

And how about the F40? Or is that a no-no?

Any thoughts appreciated..........

Just had a look at a review which says it is the same as the f30 except it has the added features of Face detection technology and IR capabilities. Ernie

The F31 has toned down the F30's tendency to burn out highlights, and you can turn off the FD things - so it's a better camera. I'd get it (but I already have the F30).
