Hi.(Repost from Hello forum).
I am very glad that I discovered this great forum. I enjoy wildlife photography, astronomy and geocaching. I am interested in digiscoping so I have being reading many posts to gather more knowledge to find out what I need for good quality avian and wildlife photography (butterflies & dragonflies).
I am looking for a lightweight scope (50-65mm) and a small digicam with a 2.5-3 in high-res screen. I really want a very light system that I can carry backpacking and traveling abroad. I am interested in cameras like the Sony N-2 & W100, Fuji F31/40, Ricoh Caplio GR, Panasonic Lumix FX30, Canon SD-750, Nikon S500/P5000 & Pentax T30. A new camera coming soon is the Ricoh GX-100. It has excellent specs: 1/1.75" sensor @10MP, RAW, 24-72mm F2.5 lens, 230K 2.5" LCD, NIMH AA or LiOn batteries, 7.8oz.
I prefer larger sensors (1/1.7 to 1/1.8 in), fast lenses (at least f2.8), and large screens (at least 200K pixels).
In terms of a scope, I like the Kowa TSN 601 and the Nikon Prostaff 65. I would like to know if it is possible to take images that are sharp and color accurate with a scope under $600. Or do I really need to use a scope with ED optics. I would like to see photo examples of the same target comparing a SD vs non-SD image.
Please let me know from your experiences which camera/scopes combos work well for you. Thank you in advance for your advise.
