Hi guys, I was wondering if there are any cameras other than the Nikon Coolpix range that also have a 28mm thread on the front ?

I wanted to try out some other possibilities for digiscoping

thanks alot ! :-)

Nick,
And if you have a camera with a slightly different thread, they do have adaptor rings to step up / step down the thread size.

Thanks Dave . I was thinking along the lines of trying digiscoping with a camera where I can actually look through the viewfinder instead of trying to see a 1 and a half inch lcd screen in poor light or direct sunlight :-)

So far I've tried the Extend-a-view with not a great deal of success ( I can focus better without it ! ) I actually get better results using the old towel over the head routine !

So, I was wondering how much easier it would be focusing on the subject while looking through the eyepiece..

Hello again Nick
Step up rings are not a good idea the first eyepiece adaptor I bought from EagleEye came with such, you need to reduce the gap between the lenses. That 990 you should work really well, I can remember when I first started with the 950/995 the 990 was one of their best models, Andy Bright used the 990 he did very well. Just stick with it Nick, you will soon get the knack I am sure.
Don't think you will have any success looking through an optical view finder one thing is the low light the other problem your view will be blocked once its attached to the scope. If your going to use an eyepiece adaptor you need a direct 28mm fit. I bought mine from LCE to fit the Swaro 20x60 which I still have for sale.

Roy.

Thanks Roy . I think I've been convinced :-) I'm sticking with my trusty 990. Besides which I've bought too many accessories for it now to warrant getting rid of it. Plus I like it !
A few photos on my blog were taken with it and the scope - look for junco and recently a Great -horned owl.
I'll get the hang of it ...patience is the key :-)

Just looked at your blog...all I can say, its not broken, do not try mending what your doing...looks great. You just need to compensate when looking into the light. If you have Spot Metering, try that. It just goes to show what that 990 has to offer you have some lovely images. Whatever scope you are using its of high quality optics. Let me know when you have received the parcel.

Will do , thanks again Roy ! :-)

That Contax camera is an interesting alternative to the coolpix . I had no idea they even existed . Looks pretty nice Jeff - thanks for the link.

I have the Contax U4R (though it is no longer made) and it is pretty decent. I've recently gotten a Nikon 8400 looking for more control - now just the painful learning process.

Learning is half the fun Dave , but yes , painful could be another way to describe it :-)

Right I'm off to look for some Yellow variant House Finches that were seen in the neighbourhood..
