Seeing that I didn't envisage that you would examine the Tern image pixel-by-pixel, try finding this male Merlin.

The only clue will be, I spent 4.5 hour waiting for something to turn-up, frozen through and through, starving. I then decided on lunch with soup in my right and cheese sandwich in the left hand, this bird appeared from nowhere to fly directly to the camera, it then swerved to the left about 5ft away from me, did I manage to get it?

No, Wiktoria, the bird has been digitally removed from the photo, and we have to guess where it was.

Heres my guess

These are fun!

Two tempting areas but this is the most tempting of the two...

Guy's you need to be a lot closer than these efforts.

Steve, I love the idea of 'let's cover an area approach'!

Edit, Sorry, Deborah has posted, should have written chaps and chapesses!

Christine, I may have missed it, after all I'm no Nigel Blake, but I might have got something!

Cyclops, exactly what happened but closer, I think you have drawn a female size, but your guess is wrong.

Woody, you 'Xs' are getting bigger and bigger with each go.

Joćo,

Are you claim the centre of the cross? If so your spot on, I'll post the proof tomorrow.

Errr... Yes, yes, that was my intention!

Kidding, but I don't believe no one guessed the centre of the image! Was it flying or perched?

Loved this game, pe'rigrin! Great thread(s)!

As we can see from the correct image, Joćo was pretty well spot-on.

I didn't get it in flight as it flew towards me, I was pretty cold by now, the soup went over my boots and the sandwich ended up in the mud, as I attempted to fire the release cable.

The Merlin came straight for me at camera level, saw me or the shape of the lens, and then veered to the left, settled on the island, it then saw something on the ground on the next island and launched an attack. There were no birds about (I can categorically confirm 4.5 hours of that). It was a behavior I have never seen of a Merlin; from my viewpoint it did not catch the prey item.
