HI
I am new to this forum
first off - this place is great
so many sections to it.
I am in need of some advice
My new cockatail is biting herself
she seems to go through fits of it.
A friend said maybe mites or nerves.
Any advice would greatly appreciated!

Hmmmmmm tough one, have you thought of vacuuming it? sucks up all the mites, never fails.
I once had a hampster that gnawed its own head off.

Sounds like boredom, this is a classic problem with parrots, which are very intelligent birds which want something better to do than sit in a cage all day watching the bookshelf, they get so bored they end up mutilating themselves. Try to enhance its living conditions - give it a large aviary (at least 10' x 10' x 8') with some shrubs in, that it can climb around in and explore. And a companion or three - cockatiels are flock birds that like company to gossip with.

Slinki, welcome to the forum, from the Admin and the Moderators.

While the focus of the forum is on wild birds, I think you'll find lots of good information here. Michael's advice on the boredom your bird is experiencing is a good example.

Thanks everyone for your help
as far as boredom
I can not give her that type of cage setting
I live in an apartment....darn wish I could.
I would love to try my hand later down the line
at breeding but until I get out of apartment and
go house, that is not gonna happen...lol
I took her to the pet store and they gave me
some stuff called Cease with aloa vera in it.
it seems to help but not stop.
I think it is nerves.
She scratches and bites all areas not just
spots.
I am going to watch her for a few days and
see what happens.
btw - we finally named her
Lucy.. :-)
thanks again all for your help
God Bless
May you find angels watching over you
with a many hugs for you

without much luck, interesting to see you were advised to use "cease", with aloa vera in it I was given "increase" with elo there viagra in it, it helps a bit but like you I think its nerves.

I reckon Steve should be worried they have more threads than BF though less posts and members.

Do you reckon Swaro of focal point will be mounting a takeover bid??
