I am waiting for it to be released here in the UK on DVD
Usual disclaimer - no connection with Amazon, just letting you all know

According to Columbia Pictures (UK) it should be released in the UK next February/March. They reckon 6 months after the cinema release.

Thankyou Kiki - that is good news

Any reason why you can't get it from amazon.com now? (apart from the ruinous exchange rates they'll presumably use)

Yes, I do order from Amazon.com (some birding books you just can't get in the UK) but my DVD only plays European DVD's (region 2 - I think we are) so this issue won't run on mine... sadly. It is the first occassion I have wished I had a multiregion player.

Some small volume, under 10 000 copies, movies are made with no code restrictions, and play anywhere, but that is unlikely here.
They do that for some rock videos that have world wide sales, but still under 20 000 total.
Codes are on the back, a single number is one area only.

I think also, that if you read the amazon.com site, it is presently available for pre-order. Release date is November 18th

That link didn't work for me, but a bit of quick searching yielded:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000CGNEH/qid=1063834094/sr=8-3/ref=sr_8_3/102-6610926-3275352?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846
(Don't know if this one will expire after awhile too.)
Anyone have any ideas what the extras will be on that DVD? There was no mention of them in the amazon listing.

I taped this film from Directv. Still, I may buy the DVD also. Many of the flight sequences are so beautiful as to make it worth the extra money for the high quality picture on a more permanent medium.
_Winged Migration_ is a fascinating window for us ground-hugging mammals into the alien, but more graceful and more elegant, lifestyle of migrating birds.

US suppliers show this in stock now. Mine came out $19, plus I ordered an unrelated CD to get free shipping, 5-9 days.

Doug why don't you get your DVD player rechipped for multi region. Some players even have more than one arrangement, and the retailer can go through the menu items and reselect multi regional, they did for me on my Hitachi (and at no extra charge, so I bought a scart lead to go with it!) Talking on flight patterns has anybody noticed how a flock of Lapwings seem to have an up and down oscillation as well as a forward component of flight?

Hi Eric
The amazon site for Germany or Belgium already has it, I saw it there some weeks ago - in French. It may have English as an alternative language but I couldn't find out if that was the case. The french Amazon site may have it too as the guy who made the film was French
Hope you find it

I actually came across this thread again by google :D
Is it in the stores in Belgium? Or just via Amazon?
I'd be willing to travel some miles just to get it...

I saw the big hardback book for the film in Waterstones today. It was sealed in clingfilm though. Strange to see the book released before the DVD.

HI Erik
it is now available as region 1 DVD on amazon in the UK but these only play on multi-region DVD players. Amazon are rationing it to 1 copy per customer - the first time I have ever seen this on Amazon - the copies are coming from Canada and not sold direct by Amazon but by associate sellers.
play.com has it due for region 2 release at £14.99 on 22.03.04 - I am waiting for that.
Not long now!!!

Hi Folks,
Had a nice surprise in my Santa stocking this morning from my wife. She somehow obtained the DVD "Winged Migration" for me. I will look forward to viewing in due course.
