I know this falls close to Seaton and also fits with the Devon thread, but rather than report birds, I would like anyone who knows this region to suggest places for me to visit, when I go to stay there for a few days in May (work permitting).

I'll be based in Exmouth, and will have a car so getting around isn't an issue. That said, I would rather explore areas within say 20 miles.

What are the best places to go to, what am I likely to see at this time of year, and which sites are best suited to photography?

I live in Brum, so it will be nice to see some coastal birds for a change!

Many thanks in advance,

Pete.

It might be pushing the 20 mile limit a bit, but I would have to suggest exploring the Seaton area! Couple of nice LNRs (Local Nature Reserves), superb little estuary, highly underrated (though becoming less so ;) ) Very friendly and helpful local birders. What more could you want?

If you feel like slumming it there are also popular spots on the Exe. Perhaps someone who knows them will help you out with some info. Not sure how far away it would be, but Yarner Wood, on the edge of Dartmoor, is superb. Also plenty of heath-type habitat near Exmouth - Nightjars, Dartfords etc....

If you have any specific queries on the Seaton area, send me a PM.

Seaton is already on my list, as my uncle lives there. He's promised to take us to the hide(s) and show us around that area.

I'll look into this Yarner Wood - thanks! :)
