From what I have read, it seems that many (if not most) people leave their in camera sharpening levels alone - at a medium range. Is there any value to increasing the in camera sharpening or are the benefits not outweighed by the risks of having, in the end, an over-sharpened picture?
Does anyone here reset their in camera sharpening level to a higher level?
Thanks,
Chris

I haven't noticed much difference myself with jpeg, but I use raw these days & find it much better for tweeking.

I left it in medium setting for looking at lcd, but in post processing (RAW to TIF conversion) in DPP, I set it to no sharpening before working in photoshop. This way I have better control over artifact at making the sharpening only at end of the processing.

Leave the sharpening as low as possible in the camera if you intend to post process your images, this will give you more control over the final level required.
On the other hand if you intend to print straight from the camera or have prints made at a lab direct from the card then I would suggest the cameras default setting as a starting point, then increase it only if you think it necessary.
Bottom line is; you can sharpen an image but you cant unsharpen it.
