View Full Version : Cheap recording method for bird id only ?

Hi im looking for a cheap method of recording bird calls , so i can id them later on , so nothing fancy needed , but does need to be quite small and handy !!!
An idea's ?

I sometimes use a digital voice recorder to record my bird sightings when out and about. It records half decent bird calls as well which I solely use to confirm ID's and then delete them as there's no download facilty.

The one I've got is the Olympus VN-120, it's quite tiny. Costs around £20.

I've used the video facility on my camera before now, just pointed the camera at the sound and filmed for a bit, ignore the video just listen.

"Rememberbird" costs £200 and fixes to your bins or a Sony Mini Disc recorder ATR55 Mic would be around £250. Latter would give higher gains for faint or distant calls.
