Hi Folks
Well ,the next morning ,i,.e.yesterday,found me at 07.00 opening the triple nets again and it was actually calm .
But that did not last and by 10.00 the Poiniente had started to get up and soon it was batten down the hatches time, not good news.
Fortunately by that time had had to close all the nets anyway as I had too many birds!!Only 2 nets rounds and all nets were closed by 10.00.
Altogether had 72 birds and the breakdown was as follows:
1 KINGFISHER
1 THEKLA LARK
27 REED WARBLERS
2 FAN TAILED WARBLERS
4 HOUSE SPARROWS
25 WILLOW WARBLERS
2 GARDEN WARBLERS
1 GRASSHOPPER WARBLER
3 COMMON WHITETHROATS
1 SARDINIAN WARBLER
Retraps consisted of:
1 GARDEN WARBLER
1 WILLOW WARBLER
3 REED WARBLERS
As for yesterday almost all Wiullow Warbler were retapped in the Cotton and almost all the reed warblers were trapped in the maize.
Did not take many pix as too many birds to ring and it was too windy.
Another very interesting bird caught today was a Reed Warbler with a Belgian ring on its leg, will get deatils off soon to see when and where it had been initially ringed.
Almost all the trans saharan had very high fat scores and 2 reed warblers weighed 17 .3 grams.plus sev Willow Warblers over 12 grams.
Have attached a pix of the Thekla Lark as have not posted this species before.
It was a moulting adult female, the brood patch was still feathering over and it still had 1 old outer primary left to replace, and tail still had some way to go too.
