Decided to take a trip to Oare Marshes in Kent today and once again it proved to be an excellent little site.
There seemed to be waders everywhere and individual species identified were;

Oystercatcher, Avocet, Ringed Plover, Grey Plover, Lapwing, Knot, Little Stint, Curlew Sandpiper, Dunlin, Ruff, Black-Tailed Godwit, Bar-Tailed Godwit, Whimbrel, Curlew, Redshank and Greenshank.

In addition there were all the usual Gulls,Common and Sandwich Tern,numerous Shelduck,7 or so Little Egret,several Marsh Harrier sightings and the delight of Kestrels defying the more than brisk north-westerly wind with their incredible hovering technique.

Many other species were also evident along with at least 5 Grey Seals.

Very enjoyable day.

It is a great place. A better variety then we managed on Saturday - although we did count 18 little egrets. Were the yellow wagtails still there?

Hi Grousemore, Sounds like you had a good day. I've only been to Oare once but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm hoping that after our get together at Elmley I will be better equipped to recognise some of the commoner waders so that I can at least realise what I'm looking at. I'm relying on you and the others to give me some tips!

Thanks all for the kind comments.

Robin:-no Yellow Wags seen(plenty of Pieds),but I spent most of the time in the hides,so they could have been missed.

Woody:-It's a good place to get to know waders because one can get so close to the action.
